Online dating is fun when it is safe. A few small habits go a long way. The tips below are general — they apply on NearYou and on any app you use. None of this replaces your own judgement.
Protect your personal information
Do not share your home address, workplace address, ID documents, bank details, passwords, or one-time codes with someone you have just met. There is almost never a good reason for a stranger to need any of this.
Meet in public, tell a friend
For first meetings, pick a busy public place — a café, a park during the day. Tell a friend where you are going, who you are meeting, and roughly when you will be back. Stay in places with people around until you are comfortable.
Watch for scams and money requests
Never send money or gift cards to someone you have only met online — even if their story sounds urgent, emotional, or romantic. This is the single most common pattern in dating-app scams. Stop the conversation and report them.
Report or block when something feels off
You do not need a reason to block someone. If someone makes you uncomfortable, block them — they will not see your profile or messages again. If their behaviour broke community rules, please also report it so our moderation team can act.
Trust your instincts
If a conversation feels wrong, you do not have to explain or apologise — just stop. The best dating decisions you will make on any app are the ones that protect your time, your money, and your peace.
