Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026

NearYou is a social and dating app that helps people meet someone near them through moods, Hidden Signals, Confessions, and Random Match. Your privacy and your safety matter to us. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. Please read it alongside our Terms of Service.

1. Information we collect

To run NearYou we collect the following categories of information. We try to keep what we collect to what the product actually needs.

  • Account information — email and authentication data (for example, sign-in via your identity provider).
  • Profile information — display name, avatar, age or birthdate where required, gender, short bio, interests, mood and vibes.
  • Public profile content — your avatar and basic profile details may be visible to other users so they can decide whether to connect.
  • Location information — we use approximate city or area-level location for matching. We avoid exposing exact coordinates publicly.
  • App activity — Discover interactions, Signals you send or receive, Same Mood reactions, Confessions, Random Match attempts, and Credits activity.
  • Messages and media — your chat messages, images and videos sent in chat, and media unlock status.
  • Confessions and anonymous content — the content you post, even when shown anonymously to others.
  • Reports, blocks, and moderation records — to operate safety tools and investigate abuse.
  • Payment records — Credit pack purchases, payment status, and the transaction references provided by service providers that process payments.
  • Rewarded Ads records — ad reward claims, daily limits, and reward history.
  • Device, session, and log data — basic technical logs needed for security, debugging, and abuse prevention.

2. How we use information

We use the information above to run NearYou and to keep the community reasonably safe.

  • Provide and operate the app.
  • Match users nearby and surface relevant profiles, moods, signals, and confessions.
  • Enable messaging, media unlock, and conversations.
  • Process Credits, purchases, rewarded ads, and payments.
  • Prevent abuse, spam, fake activity, scams, and harassment.
  • Moderate reports and enforce the community rules in our Terms.
  • Improve reliability, performance, and safety of the service.
  • Communicate support updates and policy changes.

3. Location privacy

NearYou uses approximate city or area-level location for matching. We do not display your exact coordinates to other users, and we discourage posting precise location details in public content.

Please avoid sharing your home address, workplace address, or other precise location details in your profile, confessions, signals, or chat with strangers.

4. Public and anonymous content

Some profile information and your avatar may be visible inside NearYou so that other users can decide whether to connect with you. Confessions and Hidden Signals may appear anonymously or partially hidden depending on the feature.

"Anonymous" to other users does not mean NearYou keeps no record at all. To operate safety, fraud-prevention, and moderation tools, we keep internal records of who created what, even for content shown to others without a name.

Content can be reviewed by our moderation team if it is reported or if abuse is suspected.

5. Messages and media

Messages and media are stored on our backend so that the chat feature works across devices and sessions. Please do not send sensitive personal information — bank details, government IDs, passwords, or one-time codes — to strangers on NearYou.

Some media unlock or reveal actions cost Credits. Reported messages and media may be reviewed by our moderation team to enforce community rules.

6. Payments and Credits

NearYou.Dating may work with service providers to process transactions, confirm payments, provide Credits, prevent fraud, and support users when necessary.

We store payment status and Credit transaction records so we can reconcile purchases, handle disputes, and detect fraud. Full card numbers and other sensitive payment credentials are not stored on NearYou — they remain with the service providers that process the payment, governed by their own privacy and security policies.

Credits are an in-app digital balance used to access certain paid actions. They are not a bank account, a stored-value account, or a currency.

7. Rewarded Ads

You can earn a limited amount of free Credits by watching rewarded ads. Daily limits and cooldowns apply to keep things fair and to discourage automated abuse.

When real ad providers are integrated, those providers may process technical and ad-event data according to their own policies. NearYou does not sell your private conversations to advertisers.

8. Sharing of information

We share information only as needed to run the service and meet legal obligations.

  • Service providers required to run the app (for example, hosting and storage).
  • Service providers that process payments when you make a purchase.
  • Ad and reward providers if and when integrated.
  • Legal or safety authorities when required by applicable law or to protect users.
  • NearYou does not sell your personal conversations to advertisers.

9. Data retention

We retain data for as long as we need it to provide the service, handle safety and fraud, comply with law, and resolve disputes.

When you delete your account, the categories listed below are the only ones we keep, and we keep them without your account attached. Everything else — your profile, photos, conversations and their messages, Signals, Confessions, Moods, call history, blocks, notifications, Credits balance, and your sign-in credential — is destroyed at the moment you confirm.

  • Completed payment records — provider, order number, amount, currency, Credits, status, and date. Kept 10 years for accounting law and payment-dispute purposes, with your account unlinked and every provider-supplied part of the record erased: the raw webhook payload (where a bank account holder name and number would sit), the receipt, the checkout and QR links, and the provider's checkout reference. An order number we generated ourselves that contained a reference to your account is replaced with one that does not.
  • The matching top-up, refund, and correction entries in our Credits ledger, also unlinked. Entries recording what Credits were spent on are deleted.
  • Credited rewarded-ad records, unlinked, kept 12 months so a replayed ad callback cannot be paid twice.
  • Safety reports filed by you and about you, with your account unlinked, kept 2 years. A report about you keeps the one-way fingerprint below in place of your account, so an open case still records who it concerned. For reports still under review we keep a copy of the reported text, because deleting it would destroy the evidence in an open case.
  • A one-way cryptographic fingerprint of the Google account used to sign in, kept 2 years. It cannot be reversed into your email or your name. It exists so a suspension for serious abuse cannot be cleared by deleting and re-registering, so the one-time welcome Credits are given once per person, so blocks other people placed on the account are re-applied if the same Google account registers again, and so a retained safety report or evidence copy still records which person it concerned. Blocks you placed on other people are not kept.

10. Deleting your account

You can delete your NearYou account and its associated data yourself, at any time, without asking us. In the Android app, open the Me tab and tap Delete account. On the web, sign in at nearyou.dating, open the Me page, and use Delete account. You confirm by typing your own username and ticking an acknowledgement box.

Deletion is immediate and permanent. We do not deactivate, freeze, or hold the account for a waiting period, and it cannot be restored afterwards. Unused Credits are forfeited and are not refundable.

If you have already uninstalled the app or cannot sign in, you do not need an account to make the request: visit nearyou.dating/delete-account, which is a public page requiring no login, or email support@nearyou.dating with the subject "Delete my NearYou account". We acknowledge within 3 business days and complete verified deletions within 30 days.

Because a NearYou conversation is one shared thread rather than a copy for each side, deleting your account also removes that conversation and its messages from the other person's app. What deletion cannot reach is anything another person saved outside NearYou, such as a screenshot.

11. Your choices and rights

You can edit profile information from the Me page. You can delete or change certain content where the feature supports it. You can block or report other users from the Discover, Signals, Confessions, or Messages screens.

You can delete your entire account yourself — see "Deleting your account" above, or go to nearyou.dating/delete-account. For privacy questions and data access requests, contact support@nearyou.dating.

12. Safety and sensitive information

Please do not post your private address, financial information, ID documents, passwords, or other sensitive personal data on NearYou. When meeting someone offline for the first time, choose a public place, tell a trusted friend where you are going, and be cautious of anyone asking for money or for sensitive details.

13. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational security practices to protect your information. No system is 100% secure, so please use a strong password on your authentication provider and be cautious about phishing attempts.

14. Children and age

NearYou is not intended for children. You must meet the minimum age required by applicable law for dating and social apps to use NearYou. Where an age gate exists in the product, you agree to provide accurate information.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of NearYou after an update means you accept the updated policy where legally permitted.

16. Contact us

For questions about this Privacy Policy or about your data, reach us through any of the contact channels at the bottom of this page.
